JAPAN-GO-ROUND (2013 - ongoing)

"JAPAN-GO-ROUND" is my lifework project which consists of Satoyama and Satoumi landscapes from all over Japan. I travel various local areas in Japan almost every month to find these landscapes.

Satoyama (landscapes) and Satoumi (seascapes) are the Japanese names for sustainable human-influenced natural environments. There exist traditional land use systems that have evolved from local communities' long-term efforts to adapt to their surrounding environments and enjoy their bounties in a sustainable manner. Since current global trends have highlighted the unsustainable use of natural resources around the world, I've started this project to contribute for broader global recognition of Satoyama and Satoumi, in order to promote the conservation and restoration of sustainable human-influenced natural environments in Japan.
